Arthur A. Sims Selected as Court Executive Officer
Superior Court of California,

County of Alameda

The Superior Court of California, County of Alameda, is pleased to announce that Mr. Arthur A. Sims, Executive Officer, Superior Court of California, County of Riverside, has been selected as the Executive Officer, Jury Commissioner and Clerk of the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda. Mr. Sims will assume his new duties in the near future. Further information will be provided regarding the specific date.

In referring to his new assignment, Mr. Sims expressed the following: "I'm truly excited at having the opportunity to work with the judicial officers and employees of Superior Court of California, County of Alameda. I'm confident that our collective effort will result in a continued provision of quality court services to the citizens of the county."

Mr. Sims will be responsible for the non-judicial service and staff functions of a court organization consisting of 84 judges and commissioners and over 800 employees, who provide court service in sixteen locations in Alameda County.

Mr. Sims succeeds Mr. Ronald G. Overholt, who transitions to the position of Chief Deputy Director, Judicial Council of California, Administrative Office of the Courts, in San Francisco, on October 25, 2000.

Mr. Sims is an extremely well qualified and highly respected court executive. He is currently an advisory member of the Judicial Council of California, Chair of the Judicial Council Court Executive's Advisory Committee and is past President of the California Association for Superior Court Administration. He has served on the Board of Directors of the National Association for Court Management, the largest association of court management professionals in the world.

Prior to serving as the Executive Officer of the unified Superior Court of California, County of Riverside, Mr. Sims held the positions of Executive Officer of the former Riverside Municipal Court and the pre-unified Riverside Superior Court. He played a key role in the unification of the trial courts in Riverside County.

Mr. Sims has a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Southern California, with a specialty in Judicial Administration.

The Superior Court of California, County of Riverside, is one of the nine largest court systems in California. It includes 66 judicial officers and a staff of 680 employees. As Executive Officer of the Superior Court of California, County of Riverside, Mr. Sims is responsible for non-judicial functions and services provided in multiple locations in the county. During his career in the Riverside Courts, he has provided leadership in court coordination, consolidation and unification, the transition to state trial court funding and development of court facilities and information technology systems.

William A. McKinstry, Presiding Judge, Superior Court of California, County of Alameda states, "The judges of this court feel very fortunate to have Mr. Sims join the court organization. Mr. Ronald G. Overholt, Executive Officer, Superior Court of California, County of Alameda, remarked that "I am proud to have Mr. Sims succeed me in the position of Court Executive Officer. He is an outstanding leader and highly respected by his peers and the judiciary."
